Description

Oil on softwood. Unidentified scene from the Old Testament (?). A royal couple with princess receiving a letter with saddening news, standing beside them the messenger with his horse. In the right background a vast landscape. The sky above with ornamentally chased gold base (losses). Horizontal crack, inlaid at the lower edge. In gilt neo-gothic 19th century frame. Dimensions 39 x 62 cm, framed 50 x 74 cm.

Provenance: From the possession of an old South German noble family.
