Description

Close-fitting, waisted vest of riveted chain mail. Attached collar of fine-mesh chain mail. On the breast five original fastening straps of leather with iron buckles and fittings. The collar with two iron fastening loops and push-through pin. Inside the collar original cloth lining covered with tan silk, the edges partly worn. Length 57 cm.
Rare body armour that was usually worn underneath the doublet. Vests of this kind served as protection while travelling through unsafe territory, but were occasionally also worn in towns and at court for fear of treacherous assassination attempts.
