Description

The ridged breastplate and backplate in tombac, the contoured trim in silver-plated metal with a continuous row of gilt round-head rivets. The scale bands in gilt, non-ferrous metal with leather underlay on raised, nickel-silver lion's heads, the clasps embellished with solid appliquéd oak leaves, the bandolier hook at the top left. The white lining (darkened) with an extremely fine linen structure, the edges made of black cloth trimmed with white. Small indentations in the metal. The lining somewhat stained, minor rips in places and fraying at the edges. Height 46 cm.
An extremely unusual, elegantly tapered cuirass in beautiful original condition.
