Heavy leather skull lacquered in black with round front visor (the edge rail punched “Jäger”), golden fittings and black lining with flaps. The visors loose and refixed, respectively. Applied golden star with crowned silver coat of arms of Mecklenburg within a laurel wreath. Circular crown plate with round-headed screws and “Mecklenburg” spike with small, unscrewable peak, no rear rail. Smooth chinscales on screw-mounted rosettes, national cockade in silk. Rare helmet, original in all parts.The helmet of this type was introduced in 1868 and worn until 1887. The rear rail was not introduced until 1872.
