Extremely fine linen underskirt with a long train, the hem and one decorative strip at the centre on the front with virtually identical embellishment to the matching dressing gown with two wide, pale blue silk ribbons under gossamer linen gauze, the edges also with lace borders in a slightly different design. An approx. 35 cm section at the front of the waistband sewn flat across the stomach and extending to corset lacing on either side. The waistband has been made larger to accommodate the padding over the buttocks, typical of bustle dresses, which was brought into shape by the lacing, creating a pleated effect at the back of the underskirt. A linen label stitched into the waistband, stamped "Privatfond I.K.K. Majestät" and "No. 2439". In outstanding condition and quality.

Provenance: Hermann Historica, 27th Auction in October 1992, part of lot no. 2865. Thereafter in a private German collection.
