Description
Double-edged blade with shallow fullers on both sides, the point broken. The quillons angled toward the blade, the arms extending evenly. The ends fragmented due to corrosion. Sturdy, slightly tapered tang. The circular disc pommel in bronze with a beautiful age patina, tapering to a point at the riveted button. Length 84 cm.By all accounts, an underwater find in the Seine.
Provenance: In a private French collection, acquired from Drouot in Paris, auction on 27 April 1971, lot 449.
