DescriptionThe mask made of several pieces in finely hammered copper foil, partially gilt, partially painted in colour. The face of the god Vishnu's mount with a long, hooked beak, expressive eyes and the third eye chakra on the forehead, surmounted by three skulls. Height 46 cm.
Along with the Snow Lion, the Dragon and the Tiger, the Garuda is one of the four dignities or symbolic animals of the four directions. Tibetan prayer flags frequently show the animals, one in each corner, with a wind horse in the middle.
