An exquisite table cabinet, Vizapatagam, circa 1740 – 1760

Description

Made of partially carved rosewood and extremely finely engraved, shaded ivory. The rectangular wooden body veneered and inlaid on three sides. The straight, slightly contoured frame on four turned, ebonised ball feet. On which, integrated in the frame, a drawer with numerous compartments and two pull rods to support the writing surface. A slanting writing fall-board on the top. Behind which a fine prospect with a small compartment and another five drawers. Silver-plated locks, fittings and small draw pulls. Slight damage due to age. Warped in places. Ivory inlays, some with shrinkage cracks, some loose. Dimensioins 26 x 52 x 25 cm.
