A deluxe French hunting sword (Plaute), 2nd half of the 18th century

Description

The slightly curved blade fullered on both sides, double-edged at the chape, the upper third etched, blued and gilt (abraded). The stamped quillons in fine relief (one arm cracked), made of gilt brass, embellished with rocaille ornaments, openworked in places. The grip made of carved staghorn, the pommel in the shape of three caricature-like faces, the gilt grip ferrule set en suite to the quillons. The leather scabbard with gilt brass fittings, featuring floral and rocaille ornaments on both sides. The by-knife and fork matching the handle, with knobs in the shape of bearded faces. Length 60 cm.

The pre-sale viewing will take place from Oct. 18 - 21 and Oct. 28 - 31, 2020 from 2 to 6 pm (CET).
