Iron hammer head with short, quadrangular back spike, profusely chiselled socket and quadrangular hammer head. Finely engraved surfaces with scrolling leaves, partially star-shaped brass inlays. Fullered pommel of fire-gilt brass. Rectangular haft of solid brass with laterally applied riveted silver panels. The lower third of the haft made of chiselled and brass inlaid iron. Richly engraved with scrolling leaves, inscribed on the side "B.W. zu Normberg 1581". Length 28.5 cm. Unusual ceremonial weapon, its designated use is unknown today. The hammer head is clearly designed as a weapon and not as a tool, the item at hand must have therefore had a military purpose.Condition: II + Questions about the lot?
