The almost 1000 objects in this
catalogue may essentially be organized as follows:
The Armoury of the Princes Reuttner von Weyl at Achstetten
Castle.
The castle which lies southwest of Ulm near Langheim was built
between 1794 and 1796 as a roomy classical structure and has
served as the family seat up to today. In the 60s, the entire
contents of the armoury were sold and are now being offered
once again in their entirety. The weapons, which, with few
exceptions were used for hunting, come from the period between
1650 and 1850 and mostly from the shops of southern German/Württemberg
gun makers such as the Sailers from Ehingen. For example,
around 1820 Blasius Sailer made the high-quality, double-barreled
fancy flintlock rifle with silver mountings (Euro 8,800), and
Johann Balthasar Zellner in Salzburg made the richly engraved
fancy wheellock rifle with the masterfully carved lock (Euro
9,500).
The following ca. 500 objects range from the German Gothic
hooked hand cannon from around 1500 (Euro 3,900) to the engraved
and gold-plated Walther PP which the Gauleiter Fritz Sauckel
gave to the later Obergruppenführer and personal advisor
to Hitler, Wilhelm Keppler, on his 55th birthday (Euro 5,000).
Especially noteworthy are the deluxe percussion rifle by
Carl Theodor Klawitter, Herzberg around 1850, a gift from
Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia and others (Euro 12,000) and
the Schwarzlose Model 1898 Army Pistol, offered here for the
first time with a detachable stock with matching numbers (Euro
3,000).
Outstanding among the military firearms are the DWM Parabellum,
Argentine Model 1906 with the 150 mm naval barrel (Euro 4,000),
the Joselyn Army Revolver (Euro 3,000), the M an 9 Gendarmerie
pistol, made at the Grand Duchy of Essen Factory 1806-1813
(Euro 2,300), and a flintlock infantry musket for the foot life
guards of the Duchy of Eisenach around 1735 (Euro 5,800).
The catalogue finishes up with the more than 100 pieces from
the Kümmel Collection, long known in knowledgeable circles
for its specialization in Colts and Remingtons. It contains
quite extraordinary rarities, as for example, the Colt Model
1855 Sidehammer pocket revolver which was a gift to A. Gilman
from his co-workers in the Colts Armory and which was exhibited
at the famous Colt Exhibition in the Wadsworth Athenum in
Hartford in 1961/62 (Euro 28,000), the Remington Dualtone Model
1875 presented by Remington at the "Philadelphia Centennial
Exhibition 1875" (Euro 12,000), and a series of wooden
US patent models, including one for 15 August 1871 for Joseph
Rider's magazine pistol, all unique and desirable pieces for
any Remington collector (Euro 4,000). |
