A Roman helmet of the Weisenau/Nijmegen type
1st century B.C. to 1st century A.D. Brass or bronze with distinct hammer marks on the inside and tinned exterior. Widely flaring, contoured neck-guard with reinforcement bands riveted to the sides. Long, heavily embossed eyebrows above the massive, riveted brow piece and two pronounced, embossed, stabilising ribs above the neck-guard. Ear cutouts on the sides with riveted hinge straps for attaching the cheekpieces. Height 19 cm, but circa 30 cm with the cheek pieces. Weight 1335 g. The metal surface has been preserved with the tinning almost complete. Both cheek pieces and a large part of the brow bow have been replaced. Otherwise, almost intact.
