A sabre for a sapper
France, circa 1820 Slightly curved, single-edged blade (somewhat pitted and stained) with fullers on both sides, a double-edged point, and a "CF." for Coulaux Frères and an "S" with star (Inspector F.C. Schmidt?) stamped on the ricasso. Two-piece brass hilt with a rooster head pommel and lion head masks and quillon finials. A "3" and "GV" are stamped on the smooth grip. Black leather scabbard with brass mountings (locket loose). Length 92 cm. Blade length 73.5 cm.
